Recent UT study finds VOCS, Toxins and Carcinogens in most crib mattresses

A recent study* conducted by the University of Texas has confirmed that many crib mattresses emit volatile organic compounds, toxins and/or carcinogens. Typical crib mattresses are made with foam padding and plastic covers; the team analyzed 20 different mattresses and found that each one emitted VOCs that off-gas into the surrounding environment; the chemical emissions in the area closest to the mattress surface, are twice as high as the rest of the room, meaning babies would be exposed to these hazardous chemicals every time they sleep!

Luckily, there are safer alternatives out there! New Living, a Houston-based store, offers organic mattresses without chemical flame retardants, toxic foams and plastics. These mattresses are made with organic wool, a natural flame retardant, and have a firm supportive core made of innersprings or natural latex. We also passionately believe in healthy sleep, for everyone. If you don’t think you can afford our products, just tell us.
